Vocation Prayer

O My God, Thou Who are the God of wisdom and counsel, Thou Who readest in my heart the sincere will to please Thee alone and to govern myself with regard to my choice of state in life entirely in conformity with Thy most holy desire; grant me by the intercession of the most Blessed Virgin Mary, my Mother and of my holy Patrons, especially St. Joseph and St. Gabriel Passionist, the grace to know what state I ought to choose and when to embrace it, so that in it I may be able to pursue and increase Thy glory and work out my own salvation and merit that heavenly reward which Thou hast promised to those that do Thy will. Amen.

For a Holy Life (St. Thomas Aquinas)

Grant me, O merciful God, that what is pleasing to Thee I may ardently desire, prudently examine, truthfully acknowledge, and perfectly accomplish for the praise and glory of Thy name. Ordain, O my God, my whole life, and what Thou requirest that I should do, grant me to know it and to fulfill as is meet and profitable to my soul. Give me Thy grace, O Lord my God, that I may not fail in prosperity or in adversity, avoiding pride in the former and discouragement in the latter. May I rejoice in nothing but what leads to Thee, grieve for nothing but what turns away from Thee. May I wish to please or displease n one but Thee.

May I despise, O Lord, all transitory things, and prize only that which is eternal. May I shun ant joy that is without Thee, nor wish for anything outside of Thee. May I delight in any work taken up for Thee, and tire of any rest which is without Thee. Grant me, O my God, to direct my heart toward Thee, and in my failings constantly grieve, with the purpose of a amendment.

Make me, O Lord, my God, obedient without contradiction, poor without depression, chaste without corruption patient without murmuring, humble without pretence, cheerful without dissipation, mature without dullness, prompt without levity, fearing Thee without despair, truthful without duplicity, doing good without presumption, correcting my neighbor without haughtiness, and edifying him by word and example without hypocrisy.

Give me, O Lord God, a watchful heart, which no curious thought will turn away from Thee; a noble heart, which no unworthy affection will drag down; a righteous heart, which no irregular intention will twist aside; a firm heart, which no tribulation will break; a free heart, which no violent affection will claim for itself.

Grant me finally, O Lord my God, science in knowing Thee, diligence in seeking Thee, wisdom in finding Thee, a conduct pleasing to Thee, a perseverance trustfully awaiting Thee, and a confidence finally embracing Thee. May I endure Thy punishments by penitence; profit by Thy benefits by grace in this world, and enjoy Thy blessedness by glory in the next; Who livest and reignest, true God, forever and ever. Amen.

Saint Thomas Aquinas, you are called by Holy Mother Church, the Angel of the Schools. Your wisdom, gathered through long meditation from the source of all wisdom, the most holy Trinity, has long been a shining light in the Catholic Church. Ignorance of the things of God is a darkness now enveloping the minds of many of our countrymen. O Jesus, Savior and Redeemer of mankind, Who didst restore to a sorrowing mother her only child, whose death she was lamenting inconsolably and Who through the example of the father in the parable of the prodigal son didst manifest Thy mercy toward children who stray front he right path, be mindful now of one of my own who finds himself (herself) on the road to perdition.

Almighty Father, You desire not the death of the sinner, but that they may be converted and live. Pour out upon us Your mercy and hear the prayers of Your servants. Soften the hearts of Your children who have strayed from the true faith which You established for their salvation. Lord Jesus Christ, grant to all Your servants, but especially to the people of our own nation, the grace of being fully united with You in Your Church. Extend Your kingdom over the entire human race, and in particular, over our beloved country. Almighty God, Hear this relationship prayer. As You are first in my heavenly heart and mind and spirit, so do I desire a companion for my earthly heart and mind and being. Guide me to the partner You know is perfect for me. Help me walk in faith until that time of our first meeting. Show me how I can become a partner worthy of love. Lord Jesus, grant that I and my spouse may have a true and understanding love for each other. Grant that we may both be filled with faith and trust. Heavenly Father, in Your love for us, protect against the wickedness of the devil, those helpless little ones to whom You have given the gift of life. Touch with pity the hearts of those women pregnant in our world today who are not thinking of motherhood. Help them to see that the child they carry is made in Your image as well as theirs made for eternal life. Dispel their fear and selfishness and give them true womanly hearts to love their babies and give them birth and all the needed care that a mother alone can give. We ask this through Jesus Christ,Your Son, Our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Ghost, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

For the Fallen in Wartime 

Holy Lord, almighty and eternal God, hear our prayers for your servants, whom you have summoned out of this world. Forgive their sins and failings and grant them a place of refreshment, light, and peace. Let them pass unharmed through the gates of death to dwell with the blessed in light, as you promised to Abraham and his children for ever. Accept them into your safekeeping and on the great day of judgment raise them up with all the saints to inherit your eternal kingdom. Amen.

Lord our God, you are always faithful and quick to show mercy. Our brothers and sisters were suddenly and violently taken from us. Come swiftly to their aid, have mercy on them and comfort their families and friends by the power and protection of the Cross. Amen.

Prayer for Deceased Veterans

O God, by whose mercy the faithful departed find rest, look kindly on your departed veterans who gave their lives in the service of their country. Grant that through the passion, death, and resurrection of your Son they may share in the joy of your heavenly kingdom and rejoice in you with your saints forever.
